During teenage, youngsters are in a confused state of mind and also experience physical changes so they must be treated with care and affection. Children under stress feel depressed and low, get angry easily, argues, don't like to socialize, overeat, or eat less, feel tired, and sleep often. Negative thoughts come to their mind and they can take drastic steps too. Joint efforts from parents and teachers must be made to sort out issues faced by children. How can parents and teachers help students deal with stress? Parents and teachers must help and guide teenagers deal with stress. Parents must try to know their thoughts, notice their eating and sleeping habits and overall behavior. They must set aside some time, no matter how busy they are, to talk to them and to find out what is happening in their life. If they feel that the child is not happy and is under some kind of stress, they must try talking to him/her in a friendly manner. While talking, listen to them patiently, and guide them to handle stress intelligently. If stress is due to studies, parents can take guidance from teachers. Help them take extra coaching or follow a regular study plan to complete assignments on time. If student is facing some issues at school, parents should interact with child’s teacher to find a solution. Also make sure they eat and sleep on time. Encourage teenagers to exercise daily and also to take part in sports. Playing games will help them intermingle with others and in releasing stress. If the child is looking at the situation negatively or has developed low-self-esteem, help the child to view things positively. Talk about his or her positive traits and remind them of their achievements so that they feel better about themselves. Always treat them with affection and compliment them on small achievements to boost up their confidence level. Encourage them to spend time with friends and go for outings. In case the child is feeling stressed or depressed because he/she needs to go to a boarding school, tell him/her about positive aspects of the academy and how boarding school life will help the child become better and confident individual. When teenagers are at boarding school, parents must take interest and write to them. They must send gifts on special occasions and call them for home visits as per the boarding school norms. |
