Effective Character Building at Midwest Academy |
|
During Midwest Academy character building program, we follow result-oriented approach rather than time-oriented approach. We conduct the program in 3 phases. In the first phase, students are required to learn the rules, boundaries, and structure of the academy. Students are granted privileges and status according to the decisions they make. We give students freedom as we don’t believe in too many restrictions. Students are taught values of good communication, hard work, and consistency. Since our life involves carrying out various responsibilities and follow rules, this phase is a useful learning experience for students. Second phase is the leadership phase that offers important opportunities for growth and development. Students are taught to become part of the solution and not the problem. They are taught to confront difficult situations like facing their peers. They realize the importance of parents and other authority figures and give a new meaning to the relationship they share with parents and other people around them. They also understand the importance and need for rules, limits, moderation, and boundaries. They learn teamwork and serving the society as well along with playing a key role in others’ and their own success. They progress in life, become responsible, and this helps them enhance their self-esteem. The Youth Leadership Program has to be earned by the students. This allows them to get recognition and respect from staff and other fellow students. Further, this phase is important for enhancing leadership skills in students as they are allowed to function in all areas of leadership positions. The third phase of Character Building program at Midwest Academy is the Internalization Phase. Students apply their learning and move towards a positive and progressive path. This helps them internalize what they have learnt. During this phase, the students also prepare themselves to return home. Since the character building program is result-based students work at varying speeds. |
